Well, this started as a
push pull 572B transmitter with 811A class B modulators, but...
Here is what happened!
First this....then,
And it just kept getting more interesting.
Those are a pair of Taylor T-200, acquired from K5HZ,
Ron. These are 200 watt plate dissipation triodes from about 1940.
A B&W CX-62 with N-4 neutralizing caps and a National
R-175 Rf choke consume the top of the chassis. It is topped with a 50 pF
padder cap and a Johnson 1 kW tank coil.
The Class C deck is to run from a separate B+ supply.
And more progress!
Over 2001 Thanksgiving, I was able to dedicate a bit
more time to the HBing. The RF deck is now finished and I am moving on to
the Class B modulator.
For the RF deck, I opted for combined grid leak and
cathode bias for the T-200's. Eventually, I plan on incorporating a bias
supply and removing the cathode bias.
Pictures to follow!
The Class C will be modulated by a pair of Taylor T-814's.
These are similar to T-822 triodes, but with a lower mu.
Unfortunately, a 300 watt Thordarson modulation transformer
will have to do.
The T-814 Class B modulator will be powered by a separate
power supply, running either 1250 or 1500 vdc at 300 mA, selectable.
(A couple of 810's are keeping the sockets warm for those T-814!)
More work done on the Modulator...
Under chasis wiring is about done. Now to wire the AF input, and B+ to
the modulator tubes.
(which are Taylor 203Z's)
