Watch for "Stancor 60-P Transmitter"
story in up-coming Electric Radio Mag!
My next

The

A panoramic view of my shack.
Since the "Gates 250GY" incident, my shack has changed a little.
Here are some new pictures!

On the left is the WRL station. This consists of a Globe King 400B
& TMC GPR-90 combination and a Globe Champ 175 & SX-25 combo.
The main station in the middle
is the
Collins 32V3 & 75A4 with the T-200
PP HB Tx. To the right is the Johnson 500 station
Ranger for 10 thru 160 Meters coupled to a SX-100.
On the right side of the room is a 8 foot long 3 foot deep space
reserved for 6 foot rack and panel transmitters. This area houses the Taylor T-200 PP x 203Z's
rig; W6SAI PP 4-250 transmitter; and last is the ALL-STAR
transmitter.

The Big
Rig
Just some pictures of my
T200 project. Nothing new,
simply bringing back some photos that havn't been on the web for awhile.
Taylor T200's in PP modulated by 203Z's
.
The RF deck is done, a B&W
Butterfly cap in the tank circuit with a Johnson output coil.
The
modulator will be a pair of Taylor 822's in Class B later this fall.
Both the Class
C and Class B decks have their own power supplies. About 2000 VDC at
500mA is available for the T-200's and a 1250 Volt supply is used for
the Class B. The
transmitter is driven by Collins 32V3 exciter and I use a 75A4
for
receiving.
Next around the shack is my Viking 500
& Drake 2B station ( my primary CW station) next to a Hallicrafters
SX-100 & Ranger for the 160
Meter band.

1948
HB
812's modulated
by class B 811's. Serving as my 160m rig now.
Pretty conventional for the
1940's. It looks similar to designs in a 1941 "RADIO HANDBOOK" but the
parts are from the late 1940's or even early 1950's. While visiting a
ham store in St. Joe, Michigan,
COMDAC , I found a 3000 vac CT transformer with taps at 1300 vac
and 1500 vac rated at 1 amp. I've
used a 20-5 H swinging choke that I already had on the shelf. For the
fixed choke, I used a 10 H 500 mA choke which came with the plate
transformer! Combined with a couple of 15 uF caps it is a husky power
supply. The Speech amp uses a Stancor dual 6J6 clipper/filter, 6SJ7,
6V6 and a pair of 811A's. After a bit of cleaning, the modulator
worked fine. The RF deck needed some work, though and
I added a bias supply to it. With 1250 VDC @ 280 mA I get about 250
watts output. The RF deck consists of a pair of 812A's, a B&W
JTEL input turret and TVL plug-in coils. Not quite band switching, but
almost! Over the 2000 holidays, I finished the transmitter!
My 1940 Station
Used this year for a few CW QSO's in the CX Contest
The
1941 transmitter using a pair of Taylor T-40's PP and an 807, 6L6
exciter is finished.
It was featured in the March and November 1941 issues of Radio Magazine .
Here
are some new pictures with a schematic from the March article.
A Hammarlund HQ-120X is on the top shelf for "Fone" & a
National HRO5TA-1 is used for CW. A Thordarson table top speech amp is
located on the far left of the transmitter. To the left of the
HQ-120X is
a BUD VFO-21 electron coupled oscillator. In the rack is a 1940/2000
home brew tx running a pair
of Taylor T-40's modulated by TZ40's. Thordarson CHT iron weighs down
the bottom of the rack! (A 1936 MacElroy bug, trim "cans" & a
pre-war D-104 is on the desk.)
My workshop
Looks like a Ranger is getting the work-over!

I spend some of my "free time" working on gear for other people who are
into vintage gear. Using old radios on the air is really fun, but only
modern test equipment will keep them dependable!
If
you need some repairs done, drop me an e-mail!
